Why Do Men Like Curvy Women

Welcome to the newest edition of The Why.  “Why do men like curvy women?” you ask?  Good question. Timely too. (Besides, it beats answering the question: “Why do gay guys like Marilyn Monroe?” Seriously? No clue. Maybe they figure if she could be sexy with an ample @ss there’s hope for them when they dress up? No clue. Go ask your single cousin or that old bachelor uncle of yours. Yeah, every family has one, or so the LGBT community would have us believe, at any rate.)

Having said that, men like curvy women because we are pre-programmed. We like that “breeder hips” look. But, again, let’s consult the professionals.First, let’s remember there is a difference between morbidly obese and curvy. Curvy is one thing. Fat is another.

They conducted two studies of a total of approximately 300 men who rated several pictures of spinal curves and buttock size. Bottom (ahem) line is the 45.5 degree curve won out. Curvy women are better able to handle reproduction . . . especially “multiple pregnancies without injury.”

David Lewis, a psychologist at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey and lead researcher on this study confirmed this stating: “This spinal structure would have enabled pregnant women to balance their weight over the hips.” He also noted another evolutionary/historical reason why men like curvy women.
and less likely to suffer spinal injuries.” Lewis further noted that men like curvy women because of a combination of “evolutionary pressures and modern humans’ psychology, including our standards of attractiveness.”

David Buss, a University of Texas at Austin psychology professor, and the study’s co-author, said that men like curvy women because of “an evolved standard of attractiveness.” Furthermore, he adds that there’s “a growing body of evidence that beauty is not entirely arbitrary, or ‘in the eyes of the beholder’ as many in mainstream social science believed, but rather has a coherent adaptive logic.”
